This sunny ground floor apartment has a private patio for alfresco meals. It features one matrimonial bedroom and a living room, both with French doors opening into the private patio.  The living area has a fully equipped kitchenette and a double sofa bed.  The tiled bathroom has a shower and there is also a separate laundry.

Located just in front of Porta Elisa, the eastern gate of the city walls of Lucca, Elisa is the perfect accommodation to visit Lucca by foot.

The apartment is nestled in a quiet spot, away from the main road (Via Castracani) and it is very close to LIS school ( language italian school ), and IMT school, the train station, and Piazza S. Francesco.

A supermarket is only 10 minutes walk from the apartment, in Viale Armando Diaz,  and a car rental is just around the corner.  On Via Castracani you will find several shops, pizzerie and trattorias, and a great and very popular gelato place called Bontà Yogurt.

Getting Around

Lucca is one of the cities most loved all of Tuscany, a stop that can not really miss in a classic itinerary to the discovery of the region.
The city can be visited in a day, but if you want to appreciate the best stop for a few days or choose it as a base to explore central or north Tuscany.

The city is located on a plain at the foot of the Apuan Alps and is less than half an hour from the coast of Versilia. Since it isn’t a hilltop village, it is ideal for anyone with mobility issues as well as for anyone wishing to take a break from climbing ;).

Lucca is very easy to reach both by car as well as train from both Pisa and Florence, making it perfect for anyone getting around solely on public transportation.

Most of the attractions in Lucca today show its ancient history: from the trace of the Roman amphiteater that can be seen in the shape of the Piazza dell’Anfiteatro to the archeological remains under the 12th century church of Saints Giovanni and Reparata (the first city cathedral, located just around the corner from the present-day cathedral of San Martino), to the various towers and villas from the 12th to 16th centuries.

Extraordinarily, as the city grew and modernized, the walls that surrounded the old town were maintained which was not the case for many other cities in Tuscany, including Florence. As the walls lost their military importance, the top of the walls became a pedestrian promenade, today one of Lucca’s main attractions. The area around the walls is well taken care of, with green grass and trees everywhere along the walls. They have in essence become a park that surrounds the city and blocks out more modern life. Here you can enjoy a bike ride around the entire perimeter, a stroll as you enjoy a gelato or simply a period of rest from sightseeing on one of the many shaded benches that line the main walkway.

Other top attractions include the Piazza of San Michele with its beautiful Church of San Michele in Foro, the Basilica of San Frediano as well as the Clock Tower and Guinigi Tower, to name just a few.

Around Lucca

Near the town of Lucca, always in the province, do not miss the Versilia and its beaches, the Apuan Alps and the splendid Garfagnana with its small characteristic villages as Barga. There’s a lot to do and see also in the surroundings of Lucca!

Review

We were very lucky to have found Alba and Giuseppe's listing. It is a newly appointed, clean one bedroom flat and located just outside of the city walls. The bed is very comfortable and the patio is lovely on a sunny day. We greatly appreciated his restaurant referrals and had one of our best dining experiences in Lucca. Ottobre 2016 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are very happy that we were able to rent this lovely apartment. Alba and Giuseppe were friendly and helpful, the apartment had all the amenities we needed and the apartment is in a perfect location. The location is especially good if you have a car. You do not want a car inside the old city. A car is great for exploring the nearby area called the Garfagnana. It is a lovely area for hiking or just visiting small towns. Renting bikes is very popular in Lucca and you can ride around on the city's old walls. We had them for 2 consecutive days ( which is also a much better deal) and loved it. Parking fees were reimbursed for the metered parking on the street less than a block away but we found it much easier to find unrestricted parking on a nearby side street than coming up with the coins we needed for the meters. No matter where you park, you can easily load and unload your bags right in front of your door. Another nice feature for us is that it is on the ground floor! We have climbed a lot of stairs here in Italy to our other rentals. All in all it was a great stay in Lucca and we recommend this place without reservation. BTW Alba and Giuseppe also run a B&B and judging by the apartment, I bet it is also very good. Ottobre 2016 ·
